Spring Must Haves

I am still loving plaid and this top from JCrew is a great way to bring it into spring

White is BIG for Spring. Pair this Old Navy dress with some great floral flats or camel color sandals.

This top from Forever21 would look great
with some wide leg trouser jeans and tall wedges.

Speaking of trouser jeans, these Gap ones are awesome.
These are an absolute MUST!

Envelope bags are hot this season.
This bag from Forever21 is in this great stone gray color.
I am really into gray right now.

Stripes have been huge this year. I have been seeing a
lot of colorful stripes for the spring season.
Like this one from Anthropologie.

I LOVE this skirt fro the Gap. The color is fabulous.
And those shoes?!?! Forget about it! Those are HOT.

These sandals are from Anthropologie and I
think they could seriously go with just about everything I own. I love 'em.

Pantry Re-do!: Project 1 of 1,777

So, here is the deal. My sister's house is fabulous! She has spent years making her house a home. It is cozy, wonderful, stylish and all done on a budget.

How does this apply to my blog post you ask? Well, we have lived in our house for 3 years now. A house that was supposed to be a 3 to 5 year house, has now turned into a 5 to 10 year house. Like most people, we are effected by this crazy economy and any chance of moving in the near future has vanished. Since this house was a "short term" house I didn't spend much time decorating it. I have purchased some things here and there. Did some projects here and there. But, mostly it is a hodge podge of things I have collected over the years, been graciously gifted and lots of hand me downs. You know how it is, you get married and you slowly by pieces that somehow have to fit with what you have because you are trying to make the mortgage by the hairs of your chinny chin chin.

Enter the blog world. I have been so inspired by all these amazingly talented, thrifty, diy'ers. I decided, "you know what, I can do that." I consider myself to be a somewhat stylish chic. I know what I like when I see it and my head is swirling with ideas. I figured if I am going to stay in this house another 5 + years, I better make this house a home. After lots of convincing, I think I have the Hubs on board. Of course, he thinks the house looks great and I do too, it just needs some tweaking and a little extra love. So project by project, here we go. Chronicling it for you guys all the way!

Oh, I am supposed to be talking about the pantry right? So first things first. Organization. This lovely pantry redo was my inspiration. Love it! Here is a little pantry redo for ya!

Before (some of the bins/jars were purchased at the start of this redo.
Just forgot to take a pic of the "real before.")
After 3 years, stuff was basically just piled and shoved into any available space. Not pretty or functional.

Look at the Hubs. Whatta man, whatta man, whatta a mighty good man
(a little Salt -n- Peppa for ya)! He helped unload
all the stuff that this shorty couldn't reach.

How in the world did all this junk fit into my pantry?!?!

Closer view of all the stuff. Note all the paint samples on the
window seal lined up from my crazy sample painting frenzy!

After seeing my kitchen in this state, I needed a glass of this.
Wow, just let it all hang out, dishes in the sink and all!

Finally got the pantry to look like this. All so it could turn into.....

This!!! I am in love! So organized, functional and pretty! I painted the back accent wall a blue/gray just so the glass jars and white accessories could really pop.

I purchased metal can risers from Target. They are a dream.
Why did I not have these before?

I found these wicker baskets with the chalkboard frames at Lowe's. They were a honey color wicker so I spray painted them with flat white paint.

I found the glass olive oil bottle at Wal-Mart. Plastic bottles aren't so pretty. Just waiting to find one big enough for the Veggie Oil. In the meantime it can hide behind the EVO.

I found these great teal crates at TJMaxx. They came in three different sizes and they now house all my boxes, chips and foil. Great find!

I had this hammered silver bowl for years. It was stuffed into that space above your refrigerator. I think it does a great job of hiding all of my spice mixes.

View of other side of the pantry. Ahh, so organized!

My Southern Living cake stand now holds my paper plates. Assortment of jars are from Wal-Mart.

I found these adorable chalkboard labels from Braden's Grace on Etsy. They are great. They come 12 in a pack for only $8. I plastered them on everything.

Do you guys know they make a chalkboard pen? Uhh-Mazing! You can get one at Michaels. It will change your life...if you own a chalkboard.

I hid all the not so pretty stuff behind all the good lookin' organized stuff.

While I had this organizing wild hair, I might as well organize the kitchen cabinets too....

So there you have it. My newly organized pantry. I hope you have enjoyed it, I know we are! I am linking up with:

Paint, Paint and more Paint

Well, we did it. Twelve (yes, you heard me right) paint samples later, we finally picked our gray paint color. We settled on Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter. It is a very soft gray with beige undertones. Since my house doesn't get a whole lot of light it can tend to look blueish in some lights but I have decided that is okay. Rather, my bank account decided that was ok. No more paint samples for me. So here is a little sneak peak of the paint sample craziness that went on at my house this past week.

It looks like paint samples threw up in my house!

The top paint is Revere Pewter.

I LOVE the bottom left hand color. It is Anew Gray by Sherwin Williams.
I just think it is a little too dark for the main living space. Bedroom maybe?
(oh and see the tee pee on the floor, yeah it's still sitting there)

Revere Pewter is also on the right hand side closest to the TV

More paint that didn't make the cut

Revere Pewter again, top left hand corner.

Hopefully we can get this project going soon. Little Lo's birthday party is fast approaching and I don't think I thought about the fact that I was going to have 20 something people in my house. Oh well, it's family. They are supposed to accept your crazy right?

I have another project reveal coming soon. Can't wait!

Malone is 11 months!

The day is fast approaching when our baby girl will be ONE!
She is so much fun. Each day is a new adventure with her.
You can just so those wheels spinning.
Some new developments are:

*she plays itsy bitsy spider with her fingers and it is probably
the most adorable thing you have ever seen.
*she now kisses the mirror when she sees herself. Her eyes light up like "that is the prettiest sight I ever saw!"
*her favorite sound right now is the ba ba sound. She used to say Mama, Dada, and Nana but she seems pretty disinterested in saying those anymore. Everything is baba now.
*she waves at everything and everybody
*we have had another recent development. she wants to hit me and the dog!!! Gasp! Not sure what to do about that one. Hoping its just a phase and she will grow out of it soon. She looks at you all sweetly and then BAM. She hits you with a left hook! I have just been grabbing her hand and telling her "NO" in a really stern voice. Then I tell her to "be nice." Any other suggestions?
*But, probably the most exciting development of all is that she is taking her first steps. She wobbles about three steps and then falls into our arms and we continue to scream and jump like she has just won a gold medal for walking. She is definitely a stander now so, I am thinking by the end of next week we will have an official walker.

She was pooped after a shopping trip to Pier1

Malone's wobbly first steps.
**Warning**
You will hear an annoying Mommy laugh.

Daddy has been playing this game with her lately. She cracks up. This video was taken after about the 10th time they did this. If you listen closely you can hear her snorting with laughter the whole way. Hysterical!

They like me, they really like me!

Oh man! So excited about this one! Project Nursery has chosen me and three other nurseries to compete for their Project of the Month. I can't believe little Malone's nursery was chosen as one of the faves! I am so pumped!!! If you like Malone's nursery over the others please go to this link:

Oh, and just to give you a little extra motivation, I thought I would leave you with this little cutie helping Momma unload the dishes...

Here is another, just for good measure.

I'm feelin' Grey or Gray?

So we are about to start a new project at our casa! We are painting the living room, entryway, and kitchen (all one big open space) gray! I was soooo excited but then I ventured into grayland and it is an extremely overwhelming place to be. As I right this I am looking at my 7 paint samples on the wall and not a one of 'em is going to work. They are either too silver, too blue, to green or just plain too dark. So, I need your help out there. I want a really soft gray. Not too blue, not too green. More of a greige color (gray + beige).

Like these:

I need to get some samples for Behr Dolphin Fin and Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. They seem to be pretty neutral grays. So...whatcha think? Does anyone have a great suggestion for an awesome neutral gray? I sure hope so, I'm gonna run out of money on samples before I can even paint our house!

Not your Momma's Veggies

I am not a huge fan of veggies but...I totally get that for our health we are supposed to be getting several helpings of them a day. Blah Blah Blah. So, I had to start coming up with some ways to get these veggies in our bellies. So, I decided to roast 'em and throw some syrup on 'em. Here is my favorite way to get my veggies in:

2 sweet potatoes
1 purple onion
1 red pepper
(you can also add carrots and butternut squash)
1/3 cup oil
1/4 cup maple syrup (I usually add a lil bit more)
Salt
Pepper
Garlic

Spray dish with non stick spray. Cut up all of your veggies and toss them together.

Drizzle the oil on top

Then the syrup

Add salt, pepper and a touch of garlic. Toss together till veggies are coated.
Bake veggies at 450, uncovered, for an hour. I usually take them out at the 30 minute mark and re-toss. Just to make sure they aren't sticking and getting completely coated.

Ta da! Sweet and caramelized goodness. Get some!
