I'm feelin' Grey or Gray?

So we are about to start a new project at our casa! We are painting the living room, entryway, and kitchen (all one big open space) gray! I was soooo excited but then I ventured into grayland and it is an extremely overwhelming place to be. As I right this I am looking at my 7 paint samples on the wall and not a one of 'em is going to work. They are either too silver, too blue, to green or just plain too dark. So, I need your help out there. I want a really soft gray. Not too blue, not too green. More of a greige color (gray + beige).

I need to get some samples for Behr Dolphin Fin and Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. They seem to be pretty neutral grays. So...whatcha think? Does anyone have a great suggestion for an awesome neutral gray? I sure hope so, I'm gonna run out of money on samples before I can even paint our house!

  2. our entire house is done in shades of grey, so i know all about getting the right grey! :) i love sherwin williams repose grey...it's a light greyish beige, super neutral. i also have dorian grey in some of my other rooms, but it's probably a bit dark for what you're wanting. have fun painting!

    1. QUESTION! I just got the Repose grey and painted a sample of it and to me it looks blueish! Did you use a white primer under yours??

  3. I just did my living and dining room (kind of one big room area) in MS Whetstone Gray. Because this part of my house gets a ton of light, I wish I'd gone one shade darker but I still love it as a neutral.

  4. Hmmm, I don't have greys b/c they would totally class with my trim/baseboards/crown molding... but I was thinking, have you looked in a recent Pottery Barn mag? They specify paint colors used and that might be helpful! Choosing paint is pure agony, I know. Get your sister to come over and eyeball it with you! And... I say always pick a shade lighter than you think. The more of it there is, the darker and more intense it seems to be. Also consider lighting during the day. 2 cents!

  5. Just had to chime in here! Pam and I both used BM's Revere Pewter in our homes. I've actually used it in two homes for that Greige look your going for. We love it. - Melisa, projectnursery.com

  6. linked over from projectnursery.com. Congrats. I don't know if you've decided on a color but we just painted our entire house "Stormy Weather" by Olympic from Lowes. It has been a great neutral but modern color. It matches our brown leather sofas in the basement, and our purple couches upstairs. I've got a really icy blue bedding set in my master bedroom and it really has been a fabulous choice. Good luck with your gray endeavor. Your blog is sweet.

  7. Hi there! Hope it's not too late, but "Ethereal Mood" from Sherwin Williams is a beautiful color I've got in my guest room. Changes from khaki to grey depending on the light, and is never too dark. Oh, and for the record-- you're NOT crazy for testing out so many paint colors! I've been known to do the same thing! Keep up the good work...loving your blog! (PS...I'm a hairstylist, too!)
